This week, I have decided to jump on the bandwagon of “Throwback
Thursdays” with my blog and song posts. It
is fun to look back and see where it all began. Where singing became part of
who I was and God took a hold of my voice for His glory. I think the very first
time I sang in front of others was at Calvary Community Church in Williams Bay,
WI. I was 3 and I sang...
“Jesus loves
me, He really loves me, and He’s watching over everything I doooooo”
I have always loved to sing and entertain as a child. When I was little my mom would tape-record me
outside the bathroom door while I made up songs (mostly about horses). I would also invite all my neighbors over and
perform “The Heart of Rock-n-Roll” by Huey Lewis and the News…complete with all
the instruments that I pretended to play during the song. I had my musical debut...hehe…when I performed
in actual musicals at Timber-lee. When I
was five I played “Praise”, a little girl sent to bring joy and music to a sad
kingdom…singing a couple solos with my distinctive lisp. I even had a chance to sing on a couple of
albums we professionally recorded of camp songs...then eventually running the
programming for our summer camp leading worship and writing the theme songs for
a few years.
All this to say…music runs in my blood and I have always
felt a calling to do something with it.
It wasn’t until high school where I picked up the guitar and learned to
pluck a few chords and then caught the writing bug. This song is one of my very first songs written, I believe back in high school after an FCA bible study
where we discussed Luke 15 about the prodigal son and the lost sheep.

Arms Open Wide
Becki J. Buescher
Seven times fallen, this road so rough
I find myself wandering again
I look up with tear filled eyes and strain to see Your face
And pray You would take me from this place
But when I look up
You’re already on Your way
And run to me with arms
open wide
Oh Lord why pursue this
wretch you see
Never failing, You are
there for me
Driven off the path independence as my guide
A lamb without a flock all alone
Do I know I am lost will my shepherd every come
And leave 99 to save this one
