Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet
trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces
steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that
you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
James 1:2-4
There
is not much to add to the reason this song was written. It is still a struggle to truly “count it all
joy” when we face troubled times. But,
God wants us to grow, wants us to live up to the potential He created us
for. The only way we can grow is to be
put through the fire…to be tested to see the steadfastness mature, which grows that character.
The
one thing that we must do, however, is not rely on our own strength…or we will
fall. He allows us struggle so we can
lean on Him and He will carry us through and see the blessings on the other
side!
I
added a bluesy twist to this song. I
love to sing in a blues style…when my voice will hold up for it! It kinda fits the message…except there’s a
positive outlook on distress instead of “woe is me”…maybe we can make a new
genre of “joyful blues?”
Enjoy
my song!

Only
you can carry me through
These
rough moments I endure
To
view the blessing beyond my front door
So count it all joy
Count it all joy
When we face trials it shows
that
You are there
To teach us to grow us
and make us more like You
More like You
Oh
the glory you have in store!
Worth
living, worth fighting for
Overcoming
all pain and suffering
