Samuel's lullaby (song series)

I knew He was going to be a boy.  From the moment before he was even in my belly I cried out for my Samuel. 

For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition that I made to him.

The story of Hannah in the Bible touches my heart and I had to realize from the beginning that Samuel was not my child…He was God’s child.  He is a child that I have been entrusted to raise.  I had written this song before Sam was born and wanted it to be one I sung to him often as a lullaby.  Looking back I had not sung to him near enough.  When he was old enough to start requesting nighttime rituals he began asking for me to sing a song.  As I went through a few that he had been learning, he refused them all and in a gentle quiet voice he ask “mommy, sing the be still song”  It was his first request of a song I felt I hadn’t sung enough for him to know well and it brought tears to my eyes.  I have been singing it more often since then and even have him singing it too on this recording, which I pray will be followed by many more musical expressions from this little talented guy.

Samuel, I love you so much.  You are my buddy – my wise little inquisitive one who is never satisfied with the simple explanations in life.  I pray you will continue to grow your awe and wonder of God, of this world, and of how everything works in and around us.  I am so thankful for you and the humor, joy, and delight you bless me with.

Little soul find rest in Jesus

Lay still here in His arms

Abide oh child and dwell in peace

The Lord will keep you from harm

Quiet your heart my Samuel

God’s watching over you

Trust in His love and faithfulness

For He will always be true

Be still, Be still, rest your weary eyes

I love you so, forever more and

God loves you most of all

He calms the winds and the stormy waves

and knows you inside and out

He won’t forget you or leave you alone

You are safe and sound
